World Youth Conference

The Scouts & Culture Education Division, Department of Youth & Sports, Ministry of Education received an invitation from the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva through the Department of Multilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gyalyong Tshogkhang, Thimphu to nominate two Youth delegates (1 male and 1 female) to participate in the World Youth Conference to be held in Sri Lanka from 7th - 9th May 2014.


The World Youth Conference was organized by an International Youth Task Force comprising of young global leaders in collaboration with Government of Sri Lanka with the following objectives:


1. Create an inclusive youth participation platform that enables young people to review the progress of Millinium Development Goals (MDG)


2. Share ideas, experiences and innovative approaches for post - 2015 agenda and its implementation


3. Facilitate effective partnership youth organizations to further strengthen inclusive youth participation in the decision-making process


Invitees of the event included senior ministers and senior government officials from over 40 countries, national youth delegates representing 169 countries and over 300 youth delegates representing various civil society movements.


During the Congress, the participants discussed on the Thematic Areas of the Conference and drew post-2015 agenda and Colombo Youth Declaration. The youth delegates who participated for the Conference were held responsible for the effective implementation and followup of the action plan in collaboration with the parent youth organization in their own country.


In this context, Bhutan was represented by the following two youth participants from Higher Secondary Schools under Thimphu Thromdey.
